Is Yemen the New Station?
The Middle East is a region that has managed to be the most vibrant region in the world since the beginning of human history. For centuries, mobility and war in the region did not decrease, on the contrary, they continued to increase. The new war, which started with Hamas’s attack on Israel on October 7, is about to reach different dimensions with the latest developments. The fact that US and UK forces started bombing Yemeni territory in the Red Sea may be a development that will escalate the situation.

What is the Latest Situation in Palestine?
Israeli terrorism in Palestine, which we have witnessed since October 7, has now reached unbearable levels. It has been terrorizing Palestinian lands with its incredibly inhumane practices for about 4 months. According to the figures recorded since October 7, 30 thousand Palestinians have been killed, and at least half of them are women and children. It is said that some of the dead bodies that have been waiting for days without being buried are rotten and some have started to rot because the condition of the area and hospital to be buried is also negative. Israel has been bombing or besieging the city’s most important hospitals since October 7, and as if this were not enough, the surroundings of the hospitals are being bombed. The aim here is to make it difficult for injured Palestinians to go to hospitals and force them to die. Thousands of dead Palestinians have not been buried, their corpses are rotting in the streets because there are not enough facilities, no materials, no hospitals. There is an Israel that is bombing Palestine with all its violence and does not stop.
Night raids and irregular interrogations..
Israel continues to sabotage Palestinians in the region with this method. Their improper interrogations result in either execution or torture. In addition, they impose curfews, and these arbitrary practices seem to have no end. Israel has cut off Gaza’s connection with the world, having been blockading it for years and turning it into an open-air prison. It closed the border gates and either destroyed or did not allow humanitarian aid coming from outside the country. This is just one of the war crimes committed by Israel.

According to Palestinian sources, at least 109 journalists have lost their lives in Israeli attacks in Gaza since the beginning of the war. These two data can be considered as indicators of Israel’s brutality; Israel continues to not comply with any universal law rules.
There is almost no point left in Gaza that is not bombed. The city was virtually destroyed, not only living spaces and places of worship, but also many historical ruins and historical structures were destroyed. St. Porphyrius Greek Orthodox Church, built in the 4th century in the south of Gaza, was known as the “third oldest church in the world” and was destroyed by Israeli attacks. At the same time, 20 Gazan Christians lost their lives in the attacks. Additionally, historical buildings such as the Byzantine Church and the St. Hilarius Monastery were destroyed. As can be understood, Israel not only massacres people but also declares war on nature and history.
So why did the imperialists set Yemen as a new target?
In fact, the Yemen problem has not just begun. In 2014, a Shiite group called the Houthis, backed by Iran, staged a coup and took over power. Since 2014, powers in the region, especially Saudi Arabia, the UAE and Bahrain, have refused to recognize the existence of the Houthis and decided to fight. The USA and the United Kingdom were involved in the developments between the Houthis, who are supported in every sense by Russia and Iran, and these states. The Houthis launched attacks on ships belonging to or heading to Israel in the Red Sea in order to support Palestine. Since October 31, they have begun to seize commercial ships off the coast of Yemen, which they say are affiliated with Israeli companies, and to attack some of them with drones and missiles. In response, US forces began bombing Houthi-controlled points. The process, which currently continues with mutual moves, may turn into a major regional war with the participation of major powers. The US and NATO forces will want to take very harsh measures against groups supported by Iran and Russia and to guarantee trade routes. Iran’s harsh attitude towards Israel is known and it reminds of its activeness in the region by threatening Israel and the USA at every opportunity. If the US’s moves against the Houthis in Yemen grow, Iran and Russia will have to get involved. Conflicts between the US-backed Yemeni government (former, deposed) and Iran-Russia-backed Houthis grow. These states may not openly conflict with each other; possible conflicts occur through intermediary groups. After Palestine, it seems that the dimensions of the war will grow in Yemen as well.

If Yemen becomes the new playground of imperialist powers, conflicts in Palestine may decrease. In addition to the support given to Israel, if the United States has to fight in Yemen, it will have to make mandatory restrictions and this will affect Israel’s offensive power. The Houthis declared that they would continue their support for Palestine and said that they would bomb Israeli ships at every opportunity. As I emphasized before, the dynamics of the region will determine the size of this war. I don’t think the US is keen on a comprehensive invasion. Their aim would be to create a precautionary strip against possible attacks on Israel and to neutralize the Iran-Russia-backed Houthis. The neutralization of the Houthis will mean that Iran and Russia will also suffer.

The answer to the question of whether the new stop will be Yemen is not clear, but most likely yes. Yemen’s location and political instability are very suitable for use by imperialists, the attitude and support of Saudi Arabia, the largest economy in the region, is always on the side of the Western powers, and the region is directly related to Israel’s security. All this is enough for the US and NATO forces to show interest in the region.
In another article, I would like to explain the Yemen issue in detail by talking about who the Houthis are in general. Yemen’s location in the middle of this conflict of interests and its political situation may produce very interesting results.
